Employers

The Student Employment Office provides students with two programs to help finance their education at Rutgers University–the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) and the Job Location and Development Program (JLDP).

Federal Work Study Program

The FWSP is an employment program funded by the federal government and the university. Financially eligible students are placed in part-time jobs and paid a wage for hours worked.  FWSP funds are not credited to students’ term bills. Students who work through the FWSP will have the opportunity to earn funds to help offset educational costs and also gain valuable job skills.  In addition to on-campus jobs in over 200 university departments, FWSP-eligible students have the opportunity to work in approved community service jobs both on and off-campus.

All Rutgers University departments who have an established FWSP account and have current, approved Job Description Forms (JDFs) can employ students through the FWSP.

FWSP Off-Campus Community Service employer eligibility is determined by the SEO.  Eligible employers include nonprofits and public agencies, such as municipal agencies, county offices, state government agencies, and federal departments. Learn more about the FWSP Off-Campus Community Service Program.

Job Location and Development Program

The Job Location and Development Program (JLDP) is an employment program funded by the federal government, which provides part-time and seasonal job postings to all currently-enrolled Rutgers University students, regardless of financial need.  Part-time jobs ranging from entry-level to highly skilled are posted in the JLDP job database.  Jobs are located both on and off-campus. Students work directly with participating employers to obtain positions posted in the JLDP database. The Student Employment Office (SEO) does not place students in JLDP jobs.

JLDP funding supports job recruitment and promotions. The SEO seeks viable part-time job opportunities, and promotes those opportunities to currently-enrolled university students in a variety of different ways. The JLDP is open to students on the New Brunswick, Newark, Camden and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campuses.

There is no charge for posting jobs through the JLDP.

Employers who are seeking to hire Rutgers University students for part-time and seasonal job opportunities are encouraged to post job openings in Rutgers Handshake.
